More reasons to ditch the flip flops. Day 1

What are you wearing on your feet?



As a Foot Health Practitioner I am always amazed by the things you put on your feet. The shoes and anything else you put on your feet say a lot about you and you will subconsciously make snap decisions about people based on their looks and what they are wearing whether you like to admit it or not.

With sunny and warmer weather is is not unusual to see women and men even in summery clothing and walking around with flip flops on their feet. Sure flip flops feel like the ultimate summery option because they are light and your feet are exposed to the suns rays rather than being stifled by stuffy hot shoes or trainers. In truth though flip flops should only EVER been worn very briefly on the Beach, at the Pool, Spa or in Shared Showers. Anywhere else and you are doing your feet and the eyeballs of other passers by a massive disservice and there are some very interesting reasons why.  

In some previous blogs you would have heard that Flip Flops expose your feet to bacteria, viral, and fungal infections, slow you down, make you more clumsy, destroy your heels and can cause blisters. There are also more reasons to avoid the Flip Flops to walk around in. 

They can permanently damage your toes

The pathology of your feet is complicated and hammertoes occur where the joints of your toes bend and can be caused by a muscle/tendon imbalance. The condition can be caused by persistently wearing any type of inappropriate footwear particularly high heels or anything that is too tight meaning the toe has to bend to fit into a cramped position. It can also be exasperated by a situation where your toes have to perform a repeated gripping action particularly if you are not allowing your toes to straighten. The chances are flip flops on their own aren't causing all the damage to your toes and that it is also other types of poor footwear that you are wearing as well.

Do you enjoy what you do?

How much time are you at work?

The average worker in the UK spends 3,750 full days at work, which is 90,000 hours over the course of their lifetime and will also work 188 days of overtime. It makes you think doesn't it? That is a lot of time spent behind that desk or on your feet and the truth is that if you don't enjoy your time at work then that time spent there can feel like double. No one wants to be in a workplace where you feel unhappy or that your time is dragging for little reward at the end of the day. 
One of the best things about having your own business is you decide what time you work, what days to take off and when you have a vacation or holiday. You don't have to ask for someone else's permission or be at the mercy of company policies that dictate the number of people that can be off at any one time. You can decide and that's a great feeling. But whether or not you have your own business, having some time off to recharge is always a good thing.

What is your work story?

The thing is your work environment isn't all down to you, but you can contribute and change it for better or for worse. How will you look back on your work years? Can you do anything right now to change that? I spent years in an office where I was systematically ignored and bullied and it ended up making me very ill. The sudden and unexpected death of my parents within 7 months of each other changed my perspective on life and I decided that something had to change. The bullying had meant I had to reduce my work hours, which meant less income and life was not easy. Alongside that I faced redundancy 4 times over a 5 year period, which again is very stressful and worrying as you may well be able to appreciate. 
Slowly and surely thought I turned things around, started my own business even and in 2017 finally left the hated job. The interesting thing though is that towards the end of my time there things in some areas were better and did improved. Being in a different team, with people that actually thought I was a human being made things a lot more tolerable and it was nice at least to know that there were people in the room that liked and cared for me. I am still in touch with them and we go out for meals to catch up. You don't have to make friends with your work colleagues and you may be comfortable keep work and home life separate, but that does not mean your time at work cannot be reasonable happy or pleasant. 
One thing that was totally liberating was knowing that there was a get out clause. Having the business empowered and boosted my confidence no end and I would go in the office with a totally different mindset and outlook. The tips you will learn here won't make a bad job good, but it may help you to think a bit differently, to be more positive, to make the most of the time you have at work and at the very least build some meaningful relationships with your work colleagues that help to make your time there more bearable. Feelings of loneliness, isolation and of being ostracised are not healthy and at the end of the day your health and welfare really are the most important thing.

Do you enjoy what you do?

One thing about the business is that it is much more enjoyable. There is positive feedback from happy customers and getting recommendations further enforces that people are satisfied. If you can find something you are good at and enjoy doing you will find it much more enjoyable. People that are passionate and happy about their work and business will find it much more satisfying and will also work more productively and will be able to push through the harder times. Even longer working days seem to fly by when you enjoy things more. Poor management and supervisors can play a key role in how you enjoy your time in the workplace. If you are in charge consider this. You need to look at the overall picture. Give your staff some slack every now and them because some down time will actually make them knuckle down and be more productive and a bit of banter and camaraderie helps put people in a more positive frame of mind. Keeping yourself engaged in your work is key and adding some fun to the workplace will lighten the atmosphere and help you to bond with your other staff members in a more positive and supportive way.

Hands up if you love a Summer Smoothie or Milkshake

Ways to have your Revital U

Revital U comes as a coffee, cocoa or smart caps and you can keep it simple, but maybe you'd like to find out other ways that you can have your Revital U. Don't worry, you can still get the benefits of your Revital U, it is just about your personal preference and taste. 
If you have chosen the Revital U smart caps then I'm taking it you wanted something quick and easy to take right? You can take your Revital U with a glass of water or any other beverage. The best time to have your Revital U is in the morning and no later than 2 pm if you function in normal day light hours. If you're not keen on taking the Smart caps whole and the coffee or cocoa weren't a fit. Then you can always pull your smart caps apart and decant the contents into a beverage of your choice. Try it in your tea if you prefer that, or maybe your daily glass of orange juice.

How do you like your smoothies and milkshakes?

A cool and fun way to start your day is with a smoothie. They are quick and easy to make and you can make up your own recipes as you get more confident with mixing flavours. If you have any dietary requirements you can swap your milk and yoghurt to your needs. Remember you can also try fruit yoghurts for some of these recipes. If you have a larger banana, use half and freeze the rest for the next day. If you grow your own berries you can freeze them. A tip for softer fruits like raspberries is to put them on a tray in the freezer then transfer them to a suitable container when they are frozen. This stops them sticking together when freezing. Honey can be added to a lot of these recipes, while local non pasturised honey may even help you deal with seasonal threats and pollen.

Chocolate Milkshake Heaven U Into a blender add 1/2 cup water, contents 1 Revital U smart cap, 1/2 cup of milk, half a frozen banana, one scoop of Chocolate protein powder. Blend until frothy. Add sweetener/sugar/raw agave to your preference. Top with whipped cream and a dusting of chocolate powder. 
For an extra boost you can add 4 to 5 dark chocolate chips or cocoa nibs before blending for a double chocolate blast. You can also add some crushed ice before blending if you wish.

Strawberry Milkshake Heaven U

As for the chocolate version, but swap a strawberry protein powder instead of chocolate and you can add a handful of fresh strawberries for an extra boost

Chocolate Protein Shake U Blend together 1/2 cup water, 1 scoop chocolate protein powder, 1 scoop vanilla protein powder, Contents 1 Revital U Smart Cap and 1/2 cup milk. 


Strawberry Protein Shake U As per the Chocolate Protein Shake, but swap the chocolate protein powder for a strawberry one.
Super Chocolate U Blend together 1 banana, 1/2 an avocado flesh, 1 scoop chocolate protein powder, 1 cup milk, 1/2 cup frozen blueberries, 1/2 cup frozen raspberries, contents 1 Revital U smart cap and 1 tsp honey. 

Mixed Berry Smoothie U Blend together until smooth 1 cup frozen mixed berries, 1 frozen ripe banana, 1/2 cup low fat vanilla or natural yoghurt, 1/2 cup orange juice, 1 tsp honey (optional), contents 1 Revital U smart cap. Garnish fresh berries if you wish. 
 No orange juice today? Then swap with apple juice!
Yummy



Watermelon Surprise U Blend until smooth, 1 cup sliced 
and seeded watermelon, 1cup sliced peaches, 1 tsp honey, 1/2 cup frozen raspberries, 1/2 cup orange juice and contents 1 Revital U smart cap.
Watermelon Surprise U Blend until smooth, 1 cup sliced and seeded watermelon, 1 ripe pear sliced and core removed, 1 tsp honey, 1/2 cup frozen raspberries or mixed berries, flesh of 1 small ripe avocado, 1/2 cup orange juice and contents 1 Revital U smart cap

Orange,Strawberry,Banana U Blend until smooth 1 and a 1/2 cups orange juice, 1 juice of 1 lime, a handful of strawberries, 1 (or 1 and a 1/2) ripe banana and contents 1 Revital U smart cap. Serve Chilled


Mango U Blend until smooth1 small to medium mango pulp/chunks, 1 banana, 1/2 cup orange juice, tsp honey and contents 1 Revital U smart cap. You could also do half and half of mango and peach slices.








Peachy U Blend until smooth 1 cup peach slices, 1 small apple with the core removed, 1/2 cup orange juice, 1 small banana, 1tsp honey and contents 1 Revital U smart cap.

Find somewhere interesting to go out to

This week is my Birthday week! 

Now I'm not fessing up to a number for this year, because birthdays aren't about a number. They are about you and celebrating the life you have had and the life you will have in years to come. You don't have to do anything fancy, but it is nice to feel a little bit special just once in a while.


So what might I be doing this week? There is nothing planned as such although there will be a day out somewhere nice for the big day itself, but here are some things that I love to do on my days off that might inspire you.

Going to old and interesting places


Interesting for you and me may be different, but I do love old houses. Looking at the decor, the furniture, the history, the structure even of places that are no longer habitable and going round the grounds is my idea of a fab day out. It just fascinates me to see how people used to live and what they got up to, how things used to look and how they were constructed. Sometimes it makes me grateful for the modern things in life too (and having a roof). But visually you get to see some fascinating things and objects. Old things that may have been banal in their day somehow seem to be more interesting today. There will even be objects that look very strange and time has meant that their original use and purpose has been forgotten, but that just makes it all the more interesting.  Where do like to go? Somewhere old or somewhere new?
