Are scents making you feel bad?
Did you know how many synthetic scents and perfumes are out there and how many of these toxic ingredients are finding their way into your favourite scents, not to mention the everyday products you love to use in and around your home? More importantly do you have any idea what they could be doing to your health and the health of your family? Scent is everywhere and no doubt at some point you will have bought a perfume, tried the latest plug in diffusers, reed diffusers, scented candles or aerosol spray designed to make you feel better, happier, sleep more, stay awake longer or to make your home look and smell better. There are different scents and products for just about every room in your home, while these synthetic and toxic scents are even finding their way into public buildings and not just public lavatories! There is a new trend for vaping and e-cigarettes, which come in trendy flavours to encourage a new type of customer. No doubt your day is filled with scent and scent filled products from the moment you get up until the time you go to bed. You'll be using a whole array of products to keep yourself smelling and feeling fresh and no doubt you'll be beguiled by natural sounding names and images used on the products. Even keeping your home clean is likely to be subjecting you to a toxic overload, which may be contributing to an increasing number of respiratory and health issues you and people you know have. Does the inside of your nose ever feel sore or itchy? Do you ever feel tired, run down, headachy and lethargic for no apparent reason? All this and more could be down to a very simple thing. Scent. The perfume industry is huge and scent is everywhere. It isn't just in your perfume or favourite scent. It finds its way into the everyday products you love to use.
But did you know you can improve your health by ditching the perfume and finding natural alternatives? When did you last look at the ingredients in your perfume? If you didn't catch my previous blogs on perfume then go and find them. You would have learned that ingredients such as Benzaldehyde, benzyl acetate, ethanol, ethyl acetate, and linalool, commonly found in most perfumes can lead to respiratory issues, while Ethyl acetate may put you at risk of kidney or liver damage. It has cancer-causing ingredients, including benzyl acetate, limonene and methylene chloride, while the Acetone and benzyl alcohol are linked to disturbances in the central nervous system. Some perfume chemicals have been linked to Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease. Let's see what else may be in there that is affecting your health.
