Ways to Improve your OMEGA 3 intake

Are you getting enough OMEGA 3 in your diet?

There's lots of reasons why you need to up your Omega 3 intake. Omega 3 fatty acids are really important for your health and wellbeing with numerous benefits for your body and brain.

Here are 7 ways that Omega 3 can help your health

Here are 7 good reasons to increase Omega 3 intake and there are more, which highlights how important this is for your health.
  1. Omega 3 improves your heart health, helping to reduce your blood pressure, increasing good HDL cholesterol levels, helping to prevent blood clots and keeping your arteries clear and free from damage caused by plague that can harden your arteries.
  2. It helps reduce the production of molecules and substances linked to inflammation that contribute to major illnesses such as heart disease and cancer.
  3. There may be a link between people that have higher Omega 3 intake having less age related mental decline and diseases such as Alzheimer's.
  4. Higher Omega 3 consumption may reduce the risk of certain cancers.
  5. If you struggle to sleep at night it may be because you need more Omega 3 in your diet.
  6. Omega 3 can improve your skin helping with managing oil production and hydration of your skin, helping to stop the signs of premature ageing of your skin and reducing acne.
  7. Omega 3 may help improve the symptoms of anxiety and depression.

You can consume Omega 3 through your diet. Foods that are high in Omega 3 are fatty fish, algae and certain plant foods and includes:

  • Oily fish such as Mackerel, Herring, Sardines, Anchovies
  • Salmon, Oysters, Caviar
  • Flax seeds, Chia seeds, Walnuts
  • Soybeans
  • Tofu

Other foods that are not as high in Omega 3 include:

  • Eggs, dairy products
  • Meat
  • Hemp seeds, pumpkin seeds, peanuts, hazelnuts
  • Vegetables such as Spinach, Brussels Sprouts

It is recommended that you eat fatty fish at least twice a week. If you don't eat fish a guideline amount of nuts would be 1.6g per day for adult men and 1.1g a day for women.

Not everyone enjoys eating lots of fish and you may find it difficult to get enough Omega 3 into your diet. This is why taking a good quality Omega 3 supplement can help you. Cod liver oil has been a traditional favourite, but it can leave an unpleasant aftertaste, which generally means it isn't very pure and if you are vegetarian or vegan it wouldn't be appropriate either.

Using Frankincense Essential oil

Frankincense is known as the king of oils. And what better way to start your new year than with this beautiful oil?

You know I chose it this week as a spotlight oil because we've just had Christmas and this is an oil that you might associate with this time of year because Frankincense was one of the gifts that were given to the baby Jesus by Gaspar, one of the three wise men.

The trees this precious resin comes from lasts for hundreds of years. Doterra make sure they are properly cared for and that they are careful on how it is produced because the trees that the Frankincense resin comes from are passed down for generations.

Doterra ensure that the Farmers and people producing this oil are supported and help them to look after their trees. It really is a legacy that is going to be passed on through the generations. From tree to oil every step of the way is carefully monitored to make sure only the purest oil goes into the bottle. This means you get the very best benefits from this wonderful oil.

The main chemical components of Frankincense are α-pinene, limonene and α-thujene.

The intricate mixture of
monoterpenes such as alpha-pinene, Limonene, alpha-Thujene, and beta-Pinene work together to make an oil with many uses and benefits.

These unique chemical constituents contribute to Frankincense essential oil’s renewing effects when applied topically and the ability of it to support diverse cells in the body when taken internally.

The monoterpenes also contribute to the aromatic benefits of Frankincense essential oil, including its ability to promote relaxation and a sense of focus.

This oil has beautifying qualities, it can rejuvenate your skin. It also helps your cellular health and immunity.

Use Frankincense oil to help create feelings of peacefulness, wellness, satisfaction and for relaxation.

Doterra oils are very high quality so this oil is safe to ingest. Take a couple of drops for your cellular health and immunity, which need support at this time of year.

If you want to focus your attention diffuse Frankincense.

If you have any skin imperfections or razor bumps apply some Frankincense

Frankincense is really good fun to use when your doing your meditation because of that wonderful calming, relaxing but uplifting aroma.

Use Frankincense to hydrate and rejuvenate skin especially in colder weather and you can enjoy it's wonderfully warm aroma as well.

Rub a few drops of Frankincense on your nails and cuticles to make them more healthy.

After a hectic and stressful day I just love it. Rub some to the bottom of your feet to help you come back to normal and to be grounded again.

Frankincense blends well with oils such as Lavender or Bergamot to help to create that calming, relaxing energy to focus on your today.
