Are you having too much caffeine?

Do you ever get anxiety?

If you have ever had a feeling of fear or apprehension about the future then you were probably experiencing some anxiety and you're not alone in feeling like this. In fact the United States alone has around 40 million people suffering from some form of anxiety, while throughout the world there may be about 1 in 27 people suffering from an anxiety disorder.

More people are reporting feelings of anxiety than ever before and there may be reasons for this that are connected to the environment that you live in or the lifestyle choices that you make.

Are you a caffeine addict?

If your life revolves around endless cups of coffee, tea or caffeinated drinks then you may find it makes you feel more anxious too. But caffeine can also be found in chocolate, energy drinks, weight-loss supplements, ice cream and even some over-the-counter pain-relieving drugs.
You may be more sensitive to the effects of caffeine than others, so pay attention to how caffeine affects you. If you notice it makes you too jittery, tense or anxious, try reducing your caffeine consumption or giving it up for a while to see if your anxiety improves. In fact a simple thing to do is to swap out your caffeinated drinks for non caffeine ones particularly after 2pm because the affects of caffeine remain in your body long after you have taken it.

My previous blogs have talked about media and how you are exposed to information and news on a 24/7 basis, but not just that how you use media to relax may also be affecting you, whether that is through the games you play, the films you watch or your favourite tv programs. Everything has an effect on you. What about your social media? Are you looking at, commenting on and sharing negative things on there? Even where you live may affect you and if you live in a richer country or have a modern Western lifestyle it could be making you more anxious. If you are hitting the bottle or taking drugs to make you feel better that could also be making your anxiety worse.

If you find that anxiety is taking over your life and making some positive changes isn't really helping then seek out some help and advice from your doctor.
