How to stop feeling run down

How to beat a 24 or 48 hour bug

If you have ever had a day or two when you have felt physically run down or tired, it may have been that your body was trying to fight off some sort of cold or small infection. When you feel really lethargic, colder or hotter than normal, or achy for no real reason then there are some things you can do to make sure you beat whatever it is and so that you bounce back and feel better quicker.

There are some simple things you can do to help you and your body recover.

Keep up with your fluids

Drink plenty of water because this will help flush any toxins in your body, while keeping yourself hydrated will help you to think more clearly and to stay alert. Avoid sugary drinks because they trigger inflammation, which could actually make you feel even worse.

Do some light exercise

Keeping active will actually be better for you rather than staying in bed or on your couch all day. Get some fresh air, go for a walk, but listen to your body. If you feel dizzy or unwell then rest.

Stop the booze

Hitting the bottle when you are ill is the worst thing you can do because alcohol dehydrates you, weakens your immune system and if you are taking any over the counter remedies it will make these work less effectively.

Don't take too many pills

Filling yourself up with too many pain killers, over the counter remedies and the like is going to make your body more toxic, while getting antibiotics for every little ailment you may have will stop them from working when you really do need them. Be sensible and let your body heal itself as much as possible.

Avoid stress

If you're feeling run down, your immune system won't be functioning as effectively and stress will make this worse. Try to relax and wind down with some meditation or a long relaxing bath with some lavender oil to help keep you calm.

Slow down

If you lead a hectic life and you're not feeling well, then trying to keep up with that and act as if nothing is wrong is the worst thing you can do. Try and slow things down, put off less important or strenuous tasks to another day when you are feeling better

Avoid heavy layers

If you are feeling achy and cold then add some light layers rather than turning the heating up. If your body is running a temperature then it needs to work it out of your system.

Avoid staying up late

If you are run down, then a good night's sleep will help your body not only to recharge, but to fight any infection. Turn that tv off and give your body and your brain a rest!
