Ways to have an even better foot soak with essential oils

Have you tried a Foot Soak to relax more?

Giving your feet a good soak is a great way to relieve tension and to help you relax. You can use warm water, but if it is a really hot day cold water is a good idea as it will help you to cool down. Giving your feet a good soak is a great time to exfoliate too by giving them a good rub after soaking. Always finish with a good foot cream to massage and moisturise your feet. Sometimes, you just need to take time to sit down, relax and unwind. Here are some foot soaking tips that you can try.

Try an Essential Oil Soak

There are several ways to use essential oils at home, including adding a few drops to your soak. Here are some popular choices, which you can use individually or combine together for your healing foot treatment:

Peppermint Essential Oil provides a calming cooling sensation and has anti-inflammatory properties. It also has antimicrobial properties so it is great at relieving pain from athlete’s foot and can help keep your feet smelling fresh.

Eucalyptus Essential Oil is cooling and anti-inflammatory properties which can relieve the pain of tired feet. Eucalyptus also relieves stress and tension. It also works to combat athlete’s foot and leaves your feet smelling fresh.

Rosemary Essential Oil is great for muscle and joint pain as well. It can help improve circulation and reduce the pain associated with arthritis. It is especially powerful when combined with the cooling power of peppermint or eucalyptus essential oils.

Geranium Essential Oil helps with calloused skin, sore, or open wounds, and reduces pain. It also helps promote the development of new cells so it can work to keep your feet feeling soft and youthful.

Lavender essential oil: Lavender essential oil is the most calming and relaxing essential oil. It helps relieve muscle and joint pain; it also helps heal various skin conditions. It is both an analgesic and anti-inflammatory so it has powerful pain relieving properties.

Consider adding a teaspoon of whole milk or vegetable oil to better incorporate the essential oil into the water. After soaking your feet for 10 to 15 minutes, dry them well to avoid an oily residue. Finish with a self-massage using a good foot lotion, locking in moisture and softening calluses.

You have heard in a previous blog on the benefits of soaking your feet because immersing your feet in a tub of warm water, even without anything extra in it, is a nice way to relax after a long day. A foot soak soothes your muscles, hydrates your skin and can relieve aches and pains due to standing for hours or walking in uncomfortable shoes. Plus, letting your feet sit in their own bath can help reduce swelling and prevent bacteria from settling into blisters and cuts or under toe nails.

And while a little rough skin helps protect our feet, if you’re prone to developing thick calluses, softening them in a soak makes them easier to exfoliate—precisely the reason why most pedicures begin by submerging your feet into warm water.

You will also have learned that Epsom salt contains magnesium and sulfate and is a compound that can help flush toxins and heavy metals from your skin’s cells, reduce inflammation, increase circulation and ease muscle cramps and joint pain. Epsom salt can also get rid of bad food odours, help heal fungus or ingrown nails, and soothe dry skin.
Dead Sea Salts contain 21 minerals and 7 have particular benefits for your skin and skin conditions such as  Acne, psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema, dandruff, scabies, and seborrhea as well as dry skin. You can also try adding essential oils to your Epsom and Dead Sea Salt soaks too for extra benefits.
