Reasons your feet hurt when you walk. Part 1

Do your feet hurt when you walk?

Foot pain is the worst thing especially if you are aiming to be more active and on your feet. There are countless reasons why your feet may hurt after walking and while it's really great you are getting out and about more, foot pain is very real and can cause lots of problems so here are some common foot pains and some solutions.  The main thing is make sure you wear correctly fitting shoes and listen to your feet if you feel any pain and make sure you act upon it.

This week I will be sharing with you some common foot ailments that may be affecting your feet and some simple solutions to help alleviate them.

Plantar Fasciitis

This occurs due to overuse that results in a painful inflammation of the band of fibrous tissue that runs along the bottom of your foot connecting the heel bone to your toes (called the plantar fascia). It can cause that stabbing pain in your foot when you first get up in the morning or after sitting for long periods of time. Standing or exercise may cause it too. It is more common in middle aged people, but activities that put stress on your heel and the attached tissue such as running can also contribute to earlier onset of the condition. The natural bio mechanics of your foot such as being flat footed, obesity and extra weight during pregnancy even can put extra stress on your foot. Any occupation where you are on your feet for long periods or time or standing on hard surfaces can also cause damage. Even regularly wearing poor fitting shoes with no support can also make the condition worse (avoid those flip flops if you want healthy feet).

Try massaging and stretching your feet and calves

Not only can this help relieve inflammation by prompting a fresh supply of oxygenated blood to rush to the area, but massaging and stretching may also lengthen the plantar flexor muscles, helping them move more freely and with less pain. A simple exercise you could try is to sit on a chair and roll an object such as a golf ball under the arch of the foot for 2 minutes.

Now you have thought about your feet, how about treating your nails?

Feeling good about yourself also helps you to feel happier. The Happy Foot Clinic's very own scented cuticle oil range will help you to do just that. What's more you can use it on your hands and feet and with or without any nail polish or service. It is the only cuticle oil that uses a natural grapeseed oil base that is very nourishing, protecting and will help strengthen your nails and make ugly looking cuticles a thing of the past.
