Do your feet hurt when you walk?
If you are walking more, but finding your feet are causing you trouble, there may be a simple reason why your feet may hurt after walking and while it's really great you are getting out and about more, foot pain is very real and can cause lots of problems so here are some common foot pains and some solutions. The main thing is make sure you wear correctly fitting shoes and listen to your feet if you feel any pain and make sure you act upon it.
This week I will be sharing with you some common foot ailments that may be affecting your feet and some simple solutions to help alleviate them. You have already heard how plantar fasciitis causes that nasty stabbing pain in your foot and how massaging your foot and calves can help, plus a simple exercise to roll a ball under the arch of your foot. You then learned about bunions and hammertoes that can cause pain and that wearing the right shoes goes a long way to helping your feet feel better. You also were reminded that callus and hard skin can be painful and that moisturising your feet is a good thing.
Achilles Tendonitis
Your Achilles tendon attaches to your heel bone at the back of your foot and can become irritated and inflamed when it's overused resulting in tendonitis. Wearing high heels and regular running can make you more susceptible to this condition, but other causes can include inflammatory illnesses such as rheumatoid arthritis or gout.
Repeatedly rest and ice
Avoid activity or footwear that makes the pain worse for a week to a month. Even if you feel the slightest pain no matter how small you must ice the area as soon as possible. Use an ice pack on the injury for up to 20 minutes every 2 to 3 hours and then compress by wrapping a bandage around the injury to support it. You may even need a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory to ease your discomfort and quiet the inflammation.
