Do your feet hurt when you walk?
If you want to be more active there is nothing worse than foot pain that stops you in your tracks. There are countless reasons why your feet may hurt after walking and while it's really great you are getting out and about more, foot pain is very real and can cause lots of problems so here are some common foot pains and some solutions. The main thing is make sure you wear correctly fitting shoes and listen to your feet if you feel any pain and make sure you act upon it.
This week I will be sharing with you some common foot ailments that may be affecting your feet and some simple solutions to help alleviate them. You have already heard how plantar fasciitis causes that nasty stabbing pain in your foot and how massaging your foot and calves can help, plus a simple exercise to roll a ball under the arch of your foot.
Bunions and Hammertoes
A bunion is a firm, painful bump at the base of the big toe that can cause it to encroach on on the second toe. Hammertoe occurs on your smaller toes when the toe muscles become weak, which puts pressure on the tendons and joints causing the toe to stick up at the joint. It may be genetic (like mine), but if you consistently wear too-tight shoes the action of the shoe rubbing against them and cause inflammation, swelling, and redness.Choose the right shoes
To help prevent bunions and hammertoes in the first place avoid tight fitting shoes. If you must wear those killer heels, make sure it is only for short periods of time and that you aren't walking or standing in them for too long. The best shoes have a wider toe box with space between the tip of your longest toe and the end of the shoe and aren't too high or too low for your foot. If you enjoy walking on a regular basis then consider getting proper walking boots as they will give you extra support and will be designed for the task. Remember, anything that makes you tense your feet, puts unnecessary pressure on your toes or causes your feet to scrunch up is going to cause you problems.
