Are you getting enough daylight?

Have you ever talked about the weather?

The weather in the UK is very strange. You can go from a boiling hot day to a day where it rains. There seems to be no sense in it at all. No wonder we are obsessed about the weather here, we just can't work it out.  And you can't please anyone when it comes to the weather. In winter it is too cold, too dull and too dreary, while in summer it is too hot, too dry and too bright!  Despite the moans and groans, the summer does feel better and brighter because you have more daylight hours to get things done, it is warmer and it just feels more relaxed than winter.

But it is true, happiness and the weather or rather the amount of daylight hours you are exposed to are linked. In fact it affects your body more than you may be aware. If you don't get enough daylight you can become affected by SAD Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD that relates to the amount of daylight that your body receives.

Are you a Shift Worker or Night Owl?

I used to work in an office with shift workers and to be fair some of them were the most miserable horrible people alive. They just couldn't stop moaning, but there may be something in that. Sunlight can affect your mood. If you are sleeping during the up the normal light and dark cycles by sleeping during the day and being awake at night even under artificial light it can disrupt your metabolism. This will affect how you break down energy from food, the strength of your immune system, the chemicals in your brain and other things that determine your mood, weight, energy and more. It is not unusual for people that are up late at night or that regularly work night shifts to be heavier than people who don’t.

Not being exposed to enough daylight may mean that your body produces less melatonin, a hormone that is dependent on light. You produce more melatonin toward the evening, as your body gets ready for sleep and then when daylight comes the levels of the melatonin start dropping again. In winter months the cycle can get disrupted lead to some of the mood changes linked to SAD and less melatonin may also lead to lower levels of important chemicals the body uses to repair DNA, which  could potentially lead to more mutated cells that can trigger cancer.

It is important to find time to enjoy the sunshine even if you have 10 to 30 minutes a day it will help you feel better and will help your health too. In fact sunlight has such a positive effect on your mood. Serotonin is the brain chemical that’s most directly linked to mood with higher levels of this correlating with better mood and feelings of satisfaction and calmness, and lower levels link to depression and anxiety. A bright sunny day will give you higher serotonin levels.

If you feel a bit dull and down after hours working at your desk, it might be a good idea to go outside and get a bit of natural sunlight.

Why does sunlight make you feel better?

Have you ever talked about the weather?

The weather is a bit of a paradox here in the UK. In fact it is always the topic of conversation in some form or another. In winter it is too cold, too dull and too dreary, while in summer it is too hot, too dry and too bright! You just can't seem to please anyone, but in truth there is something about summer that just feels better. You have more daylight hours to get things done, it is warmer and it just feels more relaxed than winter.

But it is true, happiness and the weather or rather the amount of daylight hours you are exposed to are linked. In fact it affects your body more than you may be aware.

Have you ever been SAD?

Now you may have felt sad once in a while, which is about feeling a little low in mood and not as happy as normal, but there is a condition called Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD that relates to the amount of daylight that your body receives. If you have heard of the winter blues and the feelings of lethargy, sadness and hopelessness that come from spending more of your time indoors with little exposure to natural light. Spending a lot of your time indoors and exposed to artificial light for many hours, may even encourage a year round form of SAD.

Natural sunlight therefore can help to elevate your mood and give you the energy to face your day. It is also probably why you feel like you have more energy in the summer months. Those extra hours of sun and daylight really do add up and you feel like you want to do more. You are going to be wearing lighter clothing and shoes, meaning your skin gets more of the suns rays on it too.

Do you find everyday chemicals a bit too strong?

What's in an oil?

You may wonder why essential oils are gaining so much in popularity right now and there are many reasons why you might like to give them a try. With summer in full swing you may find you are having to buy insect repellants and the like, but wonder if it is really safe for you and your family to keep using these. Maybe you and some of your family members have allergies and you are conscious that with the more products you use that those allergies are becoming more sensitive. Maybe you would just like to have a simpler less toxic life.

The oils are a joy to use and experience and this is why you'll love to talk about them and the benefits that they bring. You can use them in and around your home, in your cooking, for your mental and physical health, for your skin, for your family and be assured that because they are so high grade that there are no nasty toxins or chemicals in there. You can diffuse them in a steam diffuser, apply them topically or use them internally to gain the benefits.
You may feel that your life is toxic and that you don't really know what chemicals go into your everyday household cleaning and personal care products. DoTERRA oils have so many practical applications that you'll find you'll be using them more and more because you'll see and feel the difference that they make to you and your family. Knowing exactly what you are using in and around your home will make you realise how much you took for granted when buying standard off the shelf cleaning, household and cosmetic products. More than that are the ethical reasons to use DoTERRA oils because they use a Global Botanical Network of artisans and distillers and by becoming a trusted partner in the essential oils industry, it has also been able to help communities improve their own economic future while doing this in a way that supports the environment too. DoTERRA are also committed to teaching you to become the best Wellness Advocate that you can with training on product usage.

I'm Melanie and I was stuck in a job I hated working with men and women that had no respect or compassion. It almost drove me to suicide particularly after a vicious male colleague subjected me to a very personal and hurtful verbal attack and the supervisor did nothing about it or to offer me any support. If you have ever been in that sort of a situation you may understand how hard it can be. Starting my own business made me stronger and a part of my business are the DoTERRA oils that I love. They help in so many ways, mentally, physically and give a great deal of pleasure.

DoTERRA oils are totally natural and non toxic and are a great way to express yourself as an individual. You'll have great fun learning about and experimenting with them. If you love to talk and show things to people you could even turn your passion into a business. Don't know where to start? Anything that has citrus in it will be uplifting, while things like Peppermint and Lavender help to lift your mood. You don't have to spend a fortune to start up and you'll know that what you are using supports you, your family and the environment.

Does your perfume affect your brain?

Are scents making you feel bad?

Are you aware of the amount of synthetic scents and perfumes there are out there and what they are doing to your health? The growing trend for plug in diffusers, reed diffusers, scented candles or aerosol sprays doesn't look like it is going to go away any time soon. No doubt you feel compelled to make sure that your home not only looks good, but smells good too. Clever marketing encourages you to use scents 24/7 with sprays for different rooms of your home. Synthetic scents are even finding their way into public buildings and not just lavatories taking away any choice you may like on the matter. Conscious of the health issues associated with tobacco people are now trying vaping and e-cigarettes, which all use synthetic flavours. And what about the things you use in and around your home on a daily basis? If you love a daily shower there could be a whole array of products that you use to keep yourself smelling and feeling fresh. The natural names given to products belies the toxic ingredients that are contained within. Products to make your home cleaner and fresher are no better and further add to the toxic overload, which may be contributing to an increasing number of respiratory and health issues you and people you know have. Does the inside of your nose ever feel sore or itchy? Do you ever feel tired, run down, headachy and lethargic for no apparent reason? All this and more could be down to a very simple thing. Scent. The perfume industry is huge and scent is everywhere. It isn't just in your perfume or favourite scent. It finds its way into the everyday products you love to use.

But did you know you can improve your health by ditching the perfume and finding natural alternatives? When did you last look at the ingredients in your perfume? You have already learned ingredients such as Benzaldehyde, benzyl acetate, ethanol, ethyl acetate, and linalool, commonly found in most perfumes can lead to respiratory issues, while Ethyl acetate may put you at risk of kidney or liver damage. It has cancer-causing ingredients, including benzyl acetate, limonene and methylene chloride. Let's see what else may be in there that is affecting your health.

It may put you at risk of Brain disease

Acetone and benzyl alcohol are linked to disturbances in the central nervous system. Some perfume chemicals have been linked to Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease.

How safe is your perfume?

Are scents making you feel bad?

Are you aware of the amount of synthetic scents and perfumes there are out there and what they are doing to your health? If you haven't seen or tried plug in diffusers, reed diffusers, scented candles or aerosol sprays to make your room smell nicer then you are lucky. Synthetic scents are even finding their way into public buildings and not just lavatories so you don't even have any choice on the matter. A new and growing trend are vapes, vaping and e-cigarettes, which all use synthetic flavours. Let's not forget either the products you use in and around your home on a daily basis. Shampoos, shower gels, bubble baths are given natural names and imagery on their packaging, but the actual scent used is likely to be synthetic. The toxic environments that you live and work in may be contributing to an increasing number of respiratory and health issues. Does the inside of your nose ever feel sore or itchy? Do you feel tired, run down, headachy for no apparent reason? All this and more could be down to a very simple thing. Scent. The perfume industry makes tonnes of money and celebrities are keen to have their own scent lines as this is a lucrative money spinner. Perfume is seen as being glamorous, while the names and bottle shapes all add to the allure of having the latest scent.

But did you know you can improve your health by ditching the perfume and finding natural alternatives? When did you last look at the ingredients in your perfume? Let's see what else may be in there that is affecting your health.
It may put you at risk of Cancer
Many perfumes contain many cancer-causing ingredients, including: benzyl acetate, limonene and methylene chloride. Benzyl acetate has been linked to pancreatic cancer, which is one of the most deadly.

Is your perfume as good as you think?

Are scents making you feel bad?

Are you aware of the amount of synthetic scents and perfumes there are out there and what they are doing to your health? The rise of plug in diffusers means you can have scents regularly emitting into the air you breathe throughout the day. And this is being adopted by public buildings so you won't even have any choice on the matter. Everyday products for your beauty and cleaning regime will contain perfume. Shampoos, shower gels, bubble baths may all give them natural names, but the actual scent used is likely to be synthetic. How many people do you know with respiratory issues? The toxic environments that you live and work in may be contributing to this. Does the inside of your nose ever feel sore or itchy? Do you feel tired or run down for no apparent reason? All this and more could be down to a very simple thing. Scent. And yet the perfume industry is huge and heavily endorsed by celebrities keen to cash in on their name to create perfumes and scents for you to buy, while the glamorous images, names and bottle shapes all add to the allure of having the latest scent.

Is perfume affecting your breathing?

Are scents making you feel bad?

Are you aware of the amount of synthetic scents and perfumes there are out there and what they are doing to your health? I went away for a few days at a spa once and despite the gentle instruction for you to shower before entering the pool area, not everyone was considerate enough to do that. Imagine then the smell that greeted you when you entered a steam room with some older middle aged ladies that had literally slathered themselves in perfume. It stank and then smelled worse because the natural effect of a steam room is to encourage you to sweat. It was a sweet, sticky, cloying smell that was rather sickly.

Have you ever been into a public lavatory or public building where there are automatic sprays emitting aromas at regular intervals? This is before you will have considered the scents added to your laundry tabs, powder or liquid, scents added to hand creams, face creams, deodorants, washing up liquids, cleaning products, carpet powders and sprays. Scent is added everywhere and often or not it may be given a natural name like lavender, which you expect to be natural, but in truth it is synthetic and toxic.

The chances are though you don't even recognise it because you probably add more scent into your life with diffusers, air fresheners or candles and have no idea that the scent used in many of your favourite products are actually making you ill. It came to a head for me one day at work when a cleaner came into the room and sprayed it very liberally with some air freshener. I spent half an hour washing my eyes out with water because they would not stop streaming. How many people do you know with respiratory issues? The toxic environments that you live and work in may be contributing to this. Does the inside of your nose ever feel sore or itchy? Do you feel tired or run down for no apparent reason? All this and more could be down to a very simple thing. Scent. Share some happiness

Are you having a laugh?

Smiling and laughing are great ways to make you feel happier. I have talked a bit about smiling with Monday smile tips to help you get through your day. But don't forget that happiness spreads, a bit like laughter so imagine it if you could bring some happiness and laughter into your life, your office, your home and anywhere else you go how much better it could be for you.

It's not just about your happiness, it is as much about that of those around you. Face it miserable gits aren't the easiest to get those happy vibes out of. The other thing is that happiness is contagious and the happier the people you surround yourself with are, the happier and more content you will be. Being around positive people puts your mind in a better space, makes you feel more optimistic, light hearted and happy. But what can you do if you go into a room of miserable unhappy people? Well you could try spreading some happy news, talk about some positive things that have happened. You could do this on your social media as well and encourage other people to do the same. It doesn't have to be boastful, it can just be something simple. The picture shows me with the lovely Rue, who I met through business networking. What I like about this is that I can say something positive about the event, something positive about Rue and there's a nice picture of us both. It didn't take long to do. The thing is happiness doesn't have to be complicated. You don't have to worry about telling funny stories or jokes. It could be a picture of your garden or a plant that has just come into bloom. It could be a picture of your dog, cat, child or family. Smiling faces always have a positive effect on people. Even sending a card or phoning someone can make their day. Whatever you do, think about saying and doing nice things and you'll find you'll gravitate towards people that are like minded. And yes Hubby did lick my face. It was gross. He was being more cat.

Do you know how this fruit can lower your stress levels?

Get your stress levels down with Mango

Have you tried fresh mango? It tastes lovely, but also has compound called linalool that helps lower stress levels.
I love to have a smoothie. It is refreshing, quick tasty and you can pack it with lots of nutritional goodies.

Put a peeled and deseeded small to medium mango and avocado into a blender along with a scoop of vanilla protein shake, a teaspoon of wheatgrass powder, a handful of fresh mint leaves, a teaspoon of local honey, and top up with fresh orange juice. Blend and enjoy.

Do you have your coffee Iced or Hot?

Ways to have your Revital U

Revital U comes as a coffee, cocoa or smart caps and you can keep it simple, but maybe you'd like to find out other ways that you can have your Revital U. Don't worry, you can still get the benefits of your Revital U, it is just about your personal preference and taste.

Let's start with the Coffee

If you have chosen the Revital U coffee then I'm taking it you're a coffee fan right? You can make your cup of Revital U like any other coffee. It takes 1 scoop or smart sachet to make a cup and you can have it black or add a dash of milk, then sugar/sweetener to taste like you would your normal coffee. The best time to have your Revital U is in the morning and no later than 2 pm if you function in normal day light hours.
You don't have to get expensive equipment, but I do recommend a frothing wand and a jug designed to froth milk in as shown. This particular jug is designed for the microwave and makes it really easy. These do a fantastic job and will give good results. You only fill the jug to the max sign then heat in your microwave for 60 to 90 secs. If you want to add a dusting of cocoa powder in a suitable container. You can mix in some Revital U to that too! Remember you can swap milk for alternatives if you have dietry requirements and you can use low fat versions of cream/milk as well. You can add sugar/sweetener to the shot of coffee before adding milk etc, or you can do that after. The choice is yours.

Try these Revital U twists on your coffee favourites

Now I'm no Barista, but I've given all these well known coffee faves a Revital U twist. Give it a go and see for yourself how fun it is to make your Revital U in these ways.

Expresso U: Take 1 scoop Revital U and if you like, to make it stronger and more like a shot of coffee add 1 scoop or 1 teaspoon of your normal coffee to your taste (this is 1 shot), then add hot water. You can add sugar or sweetener to taste and serve.

Americano U: Add more hot water to your Expresso U!
Latte U: Add steamed (frothy/scolded) milk to 1 shot Expresso U. Add sugar/sweetener to taste.

Cappuccino U: Take 1 shot Expresso U, add a 1/4 cup of steamed milk then a layer of frothy, foamy milk. Top with chocolate shavings or powder. Traditionally consumed at breakfast. It has a greater percentage of foamed milk compared to a Latte.

Flat White U: Take steamed milk from the bottom of the jug that is not so frothy, but more creamy and pour over a shot of Expresso U

Long Black U: To 1/4 cup of water add a shot of Expresso U , then a shot of your normal coffee (add 2 scoops coffee to your taste to 1/4 cup boiling water). It makes around 12fl oz so you will want a larger cup.

Macchiato U: Take a shot Expresso U and top off with foamed milk directly into the cup (it is usually served in an expresso sized cup)
Mochaccino U: As per a Latte U, but with a scoop of chocolate powder or syrup. It can also be topped with whipped cream.

Vienna U: To an Expresso U and a strong shot of coffee (take 2 scoops or 2 teaspoons of your normal coffee and add 1/4 cup of hot water) and add whipped cream and a dusting of cocoa powder.

Mini Vienna U: To an Expresso U add some whipped cream and a dusting of cocoa powder

Vietamise U: This is my husband's favourite. Put 1/2 to 1 shot of condensed milk into a cup and slowly pour a shot of Expresso U and a normal shot of coffee on top. Stir in the condensed milk for a sweet creamy coffee.

Affogato U: Add a shot of Expresso U over your ice cream.

Want some more? Try some of these little treats.

Iced Coffee Mix together 1 Cup brewed coffee chilled,1 scoop/sachet Revital U coffee, 1/4 cup unsweetened almond milk, 1/8 cup coconut milk, 1/2 tsp vanilla extract, Sugar/stevia to taste and add 4-5 ice cubes
Coffee chocolate Heaven U: Into a blender add 1/2 cup water, 1 scoop/sachet Revital U Coffee, 1/2 cup of milk, half a frozen banana, one scoop of protein powder (either vanilla or chocolate) and some crushed ice. Blend until frothy. Add sweetener/sugar/raw agave to your preference. Top with whipped cream and a dusting of chocolate powder. You can add 4 to 5 dark chocolate chips or cocao nibs before blending for a double chocolate blast.

Cafe Mocha Protein Shake U: Blend together 1/2 cup water, 1 scoop chocolate protein powder, 1 scoop vanilla protein powder, 1 scoop/sachet Revital U coffee and 1/2 cup milk.
