They help in so many ways, mentally, physically and give a great deal of pleasure.

DoTERRA oils are totally natural and non toxic and are a great way to express yourself as an individual. You'll have great fun learning about and experimenting with them. What sort of shoes should I wear for walking in?

I have been talking about walking quite a bit, but you may like to know what to wear on your feet when you are out on your ambulations. There is nothing worse then going out for a walk in a pair of shoes that are uncomfortable, leak when they get wet or are not suitable for the terrain you are walking in.

 Autumn Walk, Autumn, Fall Foliage

How to Choose Walking Shoes

Walking style: If your approach will be more casual, your options are wide open. Pick a shoe style that most closely matches where you'll be doing most of your walking. On pavement? Pick a running, multisport or casual shoe. On nature paths or dirt roads? Go with a trail runner or light hiker.
Flexibility and support: To gauge a shoe's appropriateness for use as a walking shoe, try these tests:
  • Pick up a shoe by the heel and toe and bend the toe upward. Does the shoe bend at the ball of the foot or at some random point halfway along the arch? It should bend under the ball of the foot.
  • Twist the shoe sole from the heel to the toe. Does the sole feel like a wet noodle, or is there some resistance to twisting? As a walker, you want to feel light to moderate resistance.
Cushioning: Walking causes less impact to your feet than running does. As a result, a true walking shoe doesn’t require as much cushioning in the heel as a traditional running shoe provides. Walking shoes often focus on providing cushioning under the ball of the foot.
Waterproofing: Will you go out even if the weather is bad? A waterproof shoe will likely be important to you, so a trail-running shoe could be a good option. Trail-running shoes often have waterproof uppers, plus sturdy soles and ample support features. Some people prefer shoes without waterproof liners, especially in hotter or drier climates, because of their increased breathability and quicker drying times.
Shoe weight: If fitness is your goal, look for the low weight and support of a running shoe. (Remember, running shoes are designed for linear motion. They’ll work fine for walking on pavement or a treadmill. Just don't use them for any activity that requires abrupt side-to-side motion or quick lateral cuts.)

Walking Shoe Fit

Fit trumps all other considerations: technology, reviews, fashion or recommendations from friends. A proper fit will keep you from getting bruised toenails or heel blisters. You won't regret buying a shoe that fits you well.
A good fit can be defined as snug everywhere, tight nowhere and with enough room to wiggle your toes.

Beat cancer by walking

All you need is 30 minutes a day

You may not realise this, but just taking a 30 minute walk each day can significantly help people suffering with cancer to overcome their illness.  Exercise does not have to be anything hard or clever and surely the benefits of just going outside and moving around has to make it worth it. Even if you don't have any illness it is always a good idea to get into the routine of taking regular exercise as this will make you more robust and fit to deal with health problems should they arise.

Survivors walk more

Just taking a 30 minute walk each day alongside eating healthily can boost the chances of beating cancer by half. People that do this will have a greater survival rate than those that do not. It isn't just about the walking. You will have read in earlier posts how walking can help relieve stress and this could also be a strong factor as to why people that exercise when they are going through an illness deal with it more positively and have a better recovery rate.

Now you have thought about your health, how about treating your nails?

Feeling good about yourself also helps you to feel happier. The Happy Foot Clinic's very own scented cuticle oil range will help you to do just that. Walk more and sleep better

Can walking help you sleep better?

You have been hearing a lot about walking lately as it is a simple and effective way to exercise that most people can do.  If a walk in the morning can invigorate you and start you off for the day, then why can the opposite not be true when you walk at night to help prepare you for sleep?

Walking to a good night's sleep

If you struggle to sleep then try taking a nice long walk and have a hot bath. You may have thought that exercising your brain such as doing a crossword would lead to deeper sleep, but sleep scientists have found spending some time walking in a changing, interesting environment and engaging in an interesting conversation actually make your brain work more. It is all about the stimulation your brain receives that makes it work harder. You may think that a good read or watching tv or an exciting film will engage your mind, but they only work limited parts of your brain unlike going outside for a walk. It is the purposeful movement that helps and interacting with your surroundings. It may surprise you, but a bit of multitasking may help you to sleep better later also.

Now you have thought about your health, how about treating your nails?

Feeling good about yourself also helps you to feel happier. The Happy Foot Clinic's very own scented cuticle oil range will help you to do just that. Walk out that stress

Walk to de-stress

If you have ever been under any type of stress then you will know that it can put quite a strain on you mentally and physically. There are lots of ways to de-stress and walking is one of them.

How To Walk To Relieve Your Stress

It is always good to know your trigger points and to realise that you are in a stressful situation. If you feel uptight or have a negative energy that you need to release then this could well be stress. Stress can be caused by a number of things such as a tight deadline at work, your work environment even, trying to solve a problem or worry are some stress triggers.

What Makes You Want to Walk?
You may expect people to say weight loss and to get into shape, but a surprising number of people find walking has emotional benefits and in particular an ability to relieve stress.

Any kind of aerobic exercise can help you to feel calmer and improve a bad mood. If you exercise every day not only can it make you healthier and fitter, but it can also improve your self esteem and help combat depression. A brisk 20- to 30-minute walk can have the same calming effect as a mild sedative.

It is all about those endorphins, potent brain chemicals that relieve pain and stimulate relaxation that you release when you exercise. Endorphins give you a greater sense of calm and well being.

Meditate while you stroll

Just doing some simple meditation while you walk will decrease your levels of anxiety and you'll feel more positive and have fewer negative feelings. The good news is, you'll start feeling better straight away after your first walk and you still get positive effects from a slower walk as well. A simple technique is to be mindful while you walk. Don't have the distraction of a mobile phone and allow yourself to enjoy your walk and the pleasure of being outside. This will help your posture. A simple tip is to imagine a sting attacked to the top of your head holding it up, don't arch your back, suck your stomach in slightly to engage your core muscles and tuck in your buttocks when you walk. This will make you feel and look more confident too.

Now you have thought about your health, how about treating your nails?

Feeling good about yourself also helps you to feel happier. The Happy Foot Clinic's very own scented cuticle oil range will help you to do just that. What's more you can use it on your hands and feet and with or without any nail polish or service. How to stay healthy by a 10 minute walk after a main meal

What do you do after eating a meal?

What do you do after eating a meal. Flop down in a chair, watch TV? Go back to working at your desk? It is very easy to get into relaxed mode especially after a long day and you probably feel that you have earned a good sit down after a meal. But have you ever thought about going for a walk after eating? If you have ever had a heavier meal, a walk can actually help. Walking is not only good for some general exercise, but for people with health conditions such as diabetes it could be really beneficial.  But thinking it about it, good practices while we are healthy are good too as they can be preventative measures to stop conditions like diabetes developing. Many customers come through my clinic that have Diabetes and this can have a lot of other issues associated with it. Being overweight can make the management of the condition worse, but being overweight massively affects your health and mobility also. Diabetes is a devastating disease and you'll find the 10 minutes to take a walk after a meal is a simple and effective way to help stay healthy.
Park Life, Park, People, Walking, Life

Take a 10-minute walk after a meal

You might not believe it, but taking just a short stroll after eating a main meal can make a significant difference to your health. In fact taking a 10 minutes walk after eating can actually lower blood glucose more than a single 30 minute walk each day for people with type 2 diabetes. The best results are usually after an evening meal when there is more likely to be a higher carbohydrate consumption and when you are generally less active. In fact if you eat meals with lots of carbohydrates such as bread, rice, potatoes and pasta then taking a  quick walk afterwards is a good idea. Your body metabolises carbohydrates into sugar much more quickly and this is why a quick walk will help your body to lower your blood glucose levels.

Now you have thought about your health, how about treating your nails?

Feeling good about yourself also helps you to feel happier. The Happy Foot Clinic's very own scented cuticle oil range will help you to do just that. What's more you can use it on your hands and feet and with or without any nail polish or service. It is the only cuticle oil that uses a natural grapeseed oil base that is very nourishing, protecting and will help strengthen your nails and make ugly looking cuticles a thing of the past. It comes in 8 lovely scents - Lavender, Ginger, Rosemary, Marjoram, Frankincense, Peppermint, Cedarwood and YlangYlang and you can add some to your nails and cuticles throughout the day.

Day 14 final day New Year water detox

Benefits of Drinking Water

There are lots of benefits of drinking water that are positive for your health. Start your day with a glass of water and aim to get 2 to 2.5 litres a day if you a female and up to 3.5 litres if you are male. Start your day with a glass of water when you get up and before you have breakfast to get your mind and body functioning in the most optimal way.
I started a new 14 day challenge for myself to do this on New Year's day as that's a really good day to start a new regime or hobby for instance, but alternatively you can start today or the beginning of the week or the month as they are also really good times to start something new. And remember you can go back to this challenge at any time. It's just a quick start up to get you going and believe me, if you can stick to it for for 14 days you will feel and see a difference in yourself.

Day fourteen

Have a better heart

If you have done this for 14 days then Well Done! One last reason for drinking water is that it improves your heart health. It helps to maintain the proper viscosity of your blood and plasma and fibrinogen distribution meaning it is helping to keep your blood healthy and its going to keep your heart healthy too because when its pumping your blood around your body its the right thickness that it wants to be.

Daily Tips

You can carry recyclable, reusable water bottles around with you to make sure you stay hydrated when you are out and about. You can get bigger ones, but you know if you've got to carry them around then they can get quite heavy so a slightly smaller one may be better and that can ensure that you're staying hydrated. Some bottles come with simple filters in them as if you need to fill up and want your water to taste cleaner. Try filtered water as well if your tap water isn't to your taste and you're not keen to buy bottled water all the time particularly if your preferred brand comes in plastic bottles and you are conscious of creating bad waste. You can get simple water jugs with filters that are not terribly expensive and can be kept in your fridge to keep your water cool  You'll know when to change the filter because the water will start tasting funny.
If you want to put a bit of flavour to your water, you could put some fresh citrus fruits in there just cut up some orange, lemon, lime or something like that, although you won't be able to do this with a water bottle that filters the water as you drink it. You could even use something like DoTERRA oils. These are very good oils that are very pure and you can use them topically, but you can also use them internally because that's how pure they are. A lot of essential oils won't let you take them internally because they are not as good a grade, so you want a really good grade oil the ones I recommend are the DoTERRA oilsYou can just put one or two drops in your water just to give it a nicer flavour and they've got all the citrus blends – tangerine, wild orange, lime, lemon, grapefruit meaning there is a real choice there for you to help you can find the one that benefits and suits you. Again anything that is citrusy is going to be cleansing as well for your internal organs for your stomach and your bowels so that's really healthy as well.
If you just like water as it is start your day with a glass. Get into the habit. Get into the habit of listening to your body. If you feel maybe you're a bit peckish and you're going out and eating a load of rubbish it may just be that you're thirsty. Drink a glass of water first and then listen to your body.
If you're still hungry, you're hungry, but if you're not hungry you won't want to be having anything. Drink water, drink plenty of it. Start your day with a glass of water, drink plenty of it throughout your day and reap the benefits.
If you have joined me for this try and take this on board and do 14 days of drinking water, see how it makes you feel and if you feel better, then carry on with it. There you have it, another glass of water down, keep on going and thank you very much!

Do you want a simple and fun way to be more healthy?

DoTerra oils are totally natural and non toxic. Anything that has citrus in it will be uplifting, while things like Peppermint and Lavender help to lift your mood. Don't know where to start?
